WELCOME!
The mission of The Bird Group* (TBG) is to employ sound scientific
principles and state-of-the-art field techniques to develop and
implement creative solutions to problems confronted by raptors and
other bird populations in California and elsewhere.
The Bird Group was incorporated in November 2008 by Brian Latta
and Janet Linthicum; until recently the primary researchers of the
Predatory Bird Research Group at University of California, Santa Cruz, and long-time associate and field biologist, Paul Young. This group brings over 100 years of collective experience in the fields
of Raptor Conservation, Biology, Physiology, Propagation, Veterinary
Science, and Field Biology. We will be addressing issues concerning
conservation of birds of prey and associated species, including their
prey in the case of endangered species. This work is a passion for
all of us, not just a vocation.
We have a history of successful, simple, and cost-effective
problem-solving dating back decades, most notably the return of the
Peregrine Falcon to California and neighboring states. Our personnel
have released well over 1000 young Peregrines into the wild and their
progeny are exceeding expectations of population growth.

We also honor and perpetuate the legacy of the late Brian J. Walton, founding coordinator of the Predatory Bird Research Group at UC Santa Cruz, which lead the successful effort to recover the endangered Peregrine Falcon in California and neighboring states. We are proud to have played a significant role in that resurgence, among other wildlife conservation accomplishments.
